The tuning slide is one of the most influential components affecting how a trumpet feels to play. While often overlooked, changing the tuning slide can noticeably alter the instrument’s response, resistance, and overall playing experience—without changing the character of the trumpet itself.
The Blackburn Bb Round Tuning Slide is designed for players who want a more open, free-blowing instrument. Featuring a full-round crook and .460” (ML) bore, its geometry promotes a smooth, low-resistance air path that many players find opens the feel of the trumpet and allows it to resonate more freely.
If your trumpet feels tight or stuffy, the Round Tuning Slide is an easy and effective way to reduce resistance in a controlled manner. Players often describe the result as a broader sound, easier airflow, and a more effortless playing experience while preserving the core sound and intonation of their instrument.
Each tuning slide is handcrafted in our Lexington, Kentucky workshop using custom tubing and crooks that are drawn and formed in-house. Every slide is assembled with a durable Amado® water key, a brass cross brace, then carefully polished and inspected before leaving our shop.
