Pickett Brass Short Shank Trumpet Backbores
Designed with the unique response and intonation needs of shorter trumpets in mind, these symphonic backbores offer open, free-blowing options for C, D, and E-flat trumpet, with designs suited to orchestral and chamber performance. Each profile provides a different balance of airflow, pitch stability, and tonal breadth.
Choose your backbore design, throat size, and available finish to tailor your modular Pickett Brass trumpet mouthpiece to your playing needs. The backbore works together with the cup and throat to influence response, airflow, resistance, and tonal character.
Available Backbores:
- CS: A free-blowing symphonic short-shank design intended to help address the intonation challenges sometimes encountered on C, D, and E-flat trumpets. Suited to orchestral, chamber, and solo playing.
- DS: More open and free-blowing than the CS, while aiming to retain its core sound, secure slotting, and intonation. Ideal for orchestral and symphonic use.
- OS: A broad, open orchestral backbore for players seeking a full sound and generous airflow without sacrificing focus. Often paired with deep cups and #22–#25 throats; also pairs well with rotary trumpets.
Choose the short-shank profile, throat, and finish that best complement your instrument and playing style. Check shank compatibility with your trumpet before ordering.
