Some music simply sounds better on a cornet.

The Blackburn C Cornet was created for those moments when the warmth, elegance, and expressive character of a cornet are desired—but the music calls for an instrument in the key of C.

While C cornets have become increasingly rare, they continue to hold an important place in orchestral, chamber, and solo literature. The Blackburn C Cornet preserves the unmistakable lyrical voice of the traditional cornet while eliminating the need to transpose from Bb, allowing performers to focus entirely on making music.

At the heart of the instrument is Blackburn's versatile MD19 bell, paired with a .460" bore to produce a sound that is warm, colorful, and beautifully centered. The response is immediate, the intonation secure, and the instrument remains remarkably consistent throughout its range. Whether performing delicate solos, blending with a chamber ensemble, or bringing a distinctive voice to the orchestra, the Blackburn C Cornet offers exceptional control and musical flexibility.

Unlike a C trumpet, the Blackburn C Cornet retains the rich, conical sound that has made the cornet a favorite of expressive musicians for generations. Articulations remain smooth, lyrical passages flow effortlessly, and the instrument rewards nuanced phrasing with a depth of color that is uniquely cornet.

Every Blackburn C Cornet is handcrafted in Lexington, Kentucky using the same uncompromising standards found throughout the Blackburn instrument line. Each instrument is individually assembled, precision fitted, and play-tested to ensure outstanding response, dependable intonation, and exceptional craftsmanship.

For the musician seeking something beyond the familiar, the Blackburn C Cornet offers a distinctive musical voice—one that combines the clarity of C with the warmth and beauty that only a true cornet can provide.
