The Blackburn Gabriel was designed to do exactly the opposite.

Developed in collaboration with legendary performer and educator Vince DiMartino, the Gabriel is the culmination of years of refinement to create an instrument with immediate response, remarkable flexibility, and a sound that inspires confidence from the very first note. Every aspect of the design—from the leadpipe to the bell profile—was carefully chosen to produce a trumpet that feels effortless while delivering the depth and character expected from a handcrafted Blackburn instrument.

At the heart of the Gabriel is Blackburn's custom #52 leadpipe, developed specifically for this model. Combined with the Blackburn 213A bell and carefully balanced .460" valve section, the result is an instrument that responds instantly, centers naturally, and produces a rich, colorful sound across the entire range. Whether performing delicate lyrical passages or projecting over a full ensemble, the Gabriel remains remarkably consistent and expressive.

The Gabriel is equally at home in the recital hall, concert stage, jazz performance, recording studio, or church sanctuary. Players often describe the instrument as disappearing beneath them—allowing them to focus entirely on making music rather than managing the instrument.

Every Blackburn Gabriel is handcrafted in Lexington, Kentucky using Cliff Blackburn's time-honored manufacturing techniques combined with modern precision machining. Each instrument is individually assembled, play-tested, and adjusted to ensure exceptional response, intonation, and consistency before it leaves the shop.

Cleaning & Care

To keep your Blackburn instrument in top working order:

  • Wash with warm water and soap, both inside and out, all slides and pistons.
  • Wipe gently with paper towel
  • Do not use abrasive materials like toothpaste
  • Use an instrument cleaning snake to remove debris through out the entire horn.

Use high quality valve oil on the valves before reinserting them.
Apply a light slide oil for the first and third slides.
Apply tuning slide grease to the tuning slide.
