Flugelhorn Shank Size

When choosing a flugelhorn mouthpiece, it can be very confusing to find which flugel shank style and size to order.
Below is a description of each type of flugelhorn shank and a table of model and shank compatibility.
French (No Taper):
- This mouthpiece shank consists of a straight section of about 0.388" in diameter, transitioning to a #1 Morse taper.
- Often a small shank flugelhorn mouthpiece will 'fit', but doesn't interface well with the instrument.
Small Taper
- The end diameter of the shank is 0.355"
- Morse #1 taper
Large Morse Taper:
- The end diameter of the shank is 0.368"
- Morse #1 taper
German Taper:
- The end diameter of the shank is 0.394"
- Morse #1 taper
- Same as the standard trumpet taper
