Paul Baron

A series of new designs for Paul Baron.  Models include:

  • Lead: A comfortable round rim with a diameter of about 0.625"-0.630", generous relief after the bite followed by a shallow cup and 28 throat.
  • Studio: Same rim as the lead, but with a 27 throat.
  • BC: Paul's rim, with our solid and warm BC cup, for all around legit gigs.
  • Flugel: A very deep V-shape for that warm, velvety, sound.
  • Piccolo: The piccolo is a great match using the same rim but has the warm lyrical sound one wants.
Comments from Paul:
With the lead model, double A has a much more secure and larger slot. In fact, the whole range in general feels like it slots better and I feel like the accuracy is better as well. Notes seem to have a larger target and more secure center. The last thing I noticed is that I'm having to back off on volume a little to balance to the other players. That's a good thing as well since it feels like a more efficient blow and that I don't have to blow as hard and can let the mouthpiece do more of the work for me. All of this is noticeable since I've been playing the same show for a few weeks with the same players. Subtle changes that anyone does, whether it be playing a new mouthpiece, a new strength of reed, new mallets on the tympani, we have a strong three week reference to hear all the subtleties.
