This is at the discretion of your private teacher, but a mouthpiece that assists with efficiency and projection is helpful in jazz and marching band settings. Ultimately you need to make sure the lead mouthpiece does not hinder muscle development by using it just because it is easier! The proper practice regiment with the right equipment is the key.
